The examination of development & impact on neighborhood’ like English avenue & vine city was necessary to comprehend the along the development of beltline. These neighborhoods’ have a rich African American culture and have played a critical role in civil rights movements. Parks and restaurants were vital in bridging the community together during these times and they can be the seed for its revival.
The intervention aims to link existing parks and faith based organizations creating a platform for future growth and social inclusion with the help of food banks and other ancillary services.
The first infrastructure explored was the development of parks and how they in turn affected the development of the city around them.
PARKS INITIATIVE
The Second angle explored was the distribution of food resources throughout Atlanta. Both These resources were tied together by the Atlanta Beltline which directed us to our area of intervention - English avenue.
Food Initiative
The first phase of the project was based on the Faith based Organizations and the Parks in this community.
Faith Based Organizations: The proposal was to setup supplementary grocery stores at these spots and start a distribution network throughout the neighborhood.
Parks : The proposal of parks including rejuvenating these spaces with urban farms, green houses and Community gathering spaces.
Phase 1
The second phase of the project was based on the Proposed nodes of intervention and the vacant lots in this community.
The Proposed Nodes: The proposal was to setup a network of awareness between the two nodes of intervention. this would enable the people of the community by providing them the necessary awareness and work towards a future that they envision for themselves.
Vacant Lots : The proposal of Vacant lots included rejuvenating them with functions such as weekend markets, co-working spaces, and food parks for the locals to propagate their culture and work towards their future development.
